Due to the well-developed transport and related infrastructure Elbrus and surrounding areas are very popular in recreation, sports, tourism and mountaineering terms. On the saddle of Elbrus (5416 m), separating its eastern (5621 m) and Western (5642m) peaks, it is the highest mountain refuge in Europe.
