Volgodonsk - a town in the Rostov region of Russia. Forms city district city of Volgodonsk. One of the youngest cities in the south of the country, was founded July 27, 1950 as a village of Tsimlyansk hydroelectric operatives. Large industrial and scientific center of the south-east of Rostov region, geographical and commercial and industrial center of the 12 rural districts (8 of them belong to the system of settlement the Volgodonsk)  the energy center of the south of Russia, one of the core enterprises - Rostov (Volgodonsk) NPP. In the city there is one more very large enterprise - "ATOMMASH" - the largest in the USSR and later in Russia, the industrial association of atomic power engineering.
