1 A meal is specific period of time dedicated to food consumption, which is normally served at a set table and consists of several courses. Whereas a snack - is a short version of a meal, just a quick bite to eat (usually when the person's busy or in a hurry). Lunch is a commonly known and followed by the majority of people meal that usually takes place in the afternoon or evening (depending on the country).
2 Looking through refers to taking a look on the text, not diving into details. If a person reads the paper every morning, he simply describes his morning routine, mentioning the act of reading as part of it. But if someone reads though the paper every morning, he/she literarely scans the text all the way through (from top to bottom).
3 A family sitting down at tea is likely to have actual tea drink with a light side snack to it (a biscuit or smth). Whereas high tea would mean drinking tea as part of a full-course meal.
4 Talking about smth means having a casual conversation on given topic - discussing will involve exchange of interlocutors' opinions and, maybe, some polemic.
5 A soft drink (a non-alcoholic beverage) is completely opposite to an alcoholic drink.
6 Being fond of smth describes the person's positive attitude to smth in general. If someone likes smth, then the person's feeling is deeper and more focused.
7 A biscuit's name gives a clue to its origin itself. However, the cake (a large piece of baked dough) may be biscuit, shortbread, puff, etc.
