1. Thousands of people have taken part in protests in Khabarovsk, Russia, over the arrest of Khabarovsk governor Sergei Furgal. He was detained on Thursday, accused of having ordered the killing of several business people 15 years ago.

Mr Furgal defeated the candidate of Mr Putin's United Russia party in elections two years ago. Furgal's party, the Liberal Democrat Party of Russia, is usually seen as loyal to the Kremlin.  

But correspondents say Mr Furgal's victory was seen as a blow to United Russia's grip on power in the regions, and he is a popular figure in the far east.

2. The World Health Organization warns that coronavirus is 'not under control and is accelerating'. More than 11.8 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported today and more than 544,000 lives have been lost.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the total number of cases of coronavirus worldwide has doubled in the last six weeks. The spread of COVID-19 is showing no signs of slowing in the worst-affected countries - the USA, Brazil and India.

3. France's centuries-old Notre-Dame cathedral will be rebuilt as it was before, including its spire. A fire last April destroyed much of the cathedral's interior and caused the spire to come crashing down. President Emmanuel Macron had suggested that a contemporary design could be used for the spire, but France's national heritage and architecture commission has now approved plans to restore the cathedral to its original Gothic design.
