The taiga forest is the largest ecosystem in North Eurasia, North America and Scandinavia. Plants of the taiga are represented mostly coniferous trees, mosses, lichens, and small shrubs. However, there are several types of taiga forests, which are dominated by certain plants. Taiga forests are divided into light-coniferous taiga, which is dominated by pine and larch, and dark coniferous taiga is dominated by spruce, Siberian cedar, fir. Nature here is harsh and changeable: a short warm summer is replaced by a cool autumn, followed by a long and snowy winter. What animals are able to survive in such conditions? It is home to about 40 species of mammals: bears, martens, badgers, wolverines, hares, foxes, wild boars, moose, several species of deer. Otters, beavers, and muskrats live on the rivers. There are many birds in the taiga.
