The history of Grodno counts more than 800 years. Many centuries ago - in the 10th century - on the banks of the mighty Neman, where the Gorodnichanka River flows into it, a settlement was founded, which was called Goroden. It arose at the intersection of trade routes, so very quickly it turned into a small but very well fortified city with a fortress. There is a version that it is from the words "to fence", "to protect" and the name of the city has gone. There is another assumption: Grodno got its name from the Gorodnya (Gorodnichanka) river. Do not exclude historians and the fact that the name could go from the Neman River, which used to be called Kronon.
