In Britain, 1  (EDUCATIONn) is compulsory between the ages of 5 and 16. At the age offive, children start primary school. Then, at the age of eleven, theybegin their secondary education. Most children go to state schools, andonly about 7% 2  (ATTEND) fee-paying private schools.
A schoolyear is divided into three terms, 3 . (NEARLY) all schools work afive-day week and they are closed on Saturdays. The day starts at ninearid finishes between three and four. There is a lunch break whichusually lasts about an hour and a quarter.

The main exams are GCSEs(school-leaving exams at 16), and А-levels (university entrance exams at18). University students 8 (GRADUATE) after completing theirfirst degree, usually in three years. Many Students then continue theirstudies for a Master’s degree, or a PhD .
