Omsk was founded by the Cossack detachment in 1716 and initially served as a border fortress erected to protect the Russian Empire from nomadic raids. For a long time Omsk served as a prison. In the XIX century Omsk was of great importance for the country and was the center of the first West Siberian, and then Steppe Governor-General. During the civil war, Omsk was the capital of the Russian state and White Russia, in honor of which it even had the unofficial name "The Third Capital".
In the Soviet years, Omsk significantly expanded due to the association with nearby cities and towns. Today the city is actively developing, new housing is being built, roads are being reconstructed, and the population is growing. Omsk is considered one of the most attractive Russian cities for business development.
