Ivan Kalita was Grand Duke of Moscow from 1325 and Vladimir from 1332.

There is nothing mysterious in his name: it is known that Ivan Kalita was characterized by generosity towards poor people. He wore a wallet on his belt namely "kalita" filled with coins which he gave to poor. And this word gave the start to this rather famous nickname
