Everyone knows that fishermen (always) EXAGGERATE about the size of the fish they catch - their fish is always the LARGEST fish in the lake. Well, John Oakes, an  amateur fisherman, didn't get the chance to boast about how big his fish was because, even though he had been fishing all day, he had failed CATCH even one.

As you can imagine, he DID NOT FEEL very happy about not catching anything. Feeling sorry for HIMSELF because he would have to go back to his wife with NOTHING for that night's supper, he started walking back to town. Just as he WAS PASSING by the local fish shop, John got an idea.  When the assistant said he did, John said, That's great, WOULD you mind throwing one to me? The shop assistant looked at him strangely and asked John if he HAD HEARD him correctly. John said that, yes, he had and went on to explain that he wanted the assistant to throw him the fish so that he WOULD NOT LIE to his wife when she asked him whether he had caught a fish that day.

The other day, a friend told me a HUMOUROUS story about a robbery that had taken place in New York City back in the 1960s. According to my friend, a thief had come up with a plan to break into a NEIGHBOURHOOD supermarket. After some THOUGHT HE felt that the simplest way to do this was to get into the supermarket through the window on the roof of the BUILDING. Although, the thief's plan was actually quite a good one, when he got up onto the roof and saw the size of the window, he QUICKLY realized that there was a problem - the window was too small for him to fit through. In the BEGINING the thief did not know what to do, but then he had ( at least he thought so) a WONDERFUL idea. Quickly, the thief undressed and dropped his clothes through the window. In the BELIEF that he was now slim enough to fit, he tried to get through the window, and immediately got stuck! It is not hard to imagine the thief's  EMBARRASSMENT when the police arrived to get him out of the window. It wasn't enough that his perfect crime had been a total FAILURE, he now had to get into the back of a police car with absolutely no clothes on!

One summer morning, a man walked 1 into a barbershop. With him was a young boy 2 who looked as though he didn't know whether he should be there or not. The man asked the barber 3 if they would have to wait long and the barber replied that he could take care of them right that moment. After seating himself in the barber's chair, the man ordered the boy to sit in a chair 4 which/that was right beside him. He then asked the barber for a haircut and a shave. As the barber was cutting the man's hair, the young boy started to get 5 impatient. The man told him to sit down and be patient, it would be his turn soon. This happened several times 6 before the barber had finally finished. When the man stood up, he told the boy that he had to go to the shop next door for a minute but  romised to return 7 as soon as possible. The barber cut the boy's hair and asked 8 why his father had been gone so long. Surprised, the young boy said that the man was 9 not his father. When the barber asked him who he was, the young boy said, I have no idea. I was standing outside your shop when he came up to 10 me and asked if I wanted a free haircut.
