The clothes stained with paints, dried acrylic traces on the floor and a whole handful of open tubes of oil paint are my indispensable attributes of studying at an art institution. From early childhood, I chose this direction for myself and, of course, I met with different opinions of people around me. Some supported my choice, others condemned, arguing that I could not use this kind of activity as my main source of income. But on what were the arguments of these people based? My opinion is their ossification, inconsistency in this matter and the most typical template thinking.
Society has become accustomed not only to portray, but also to see people engaged in artistic activities, as failed fanatics of their business with a low financial limit. You can see Platonic Ideas everywhere: media, cinema, literary works. Their opinion is not fueled without reason, many figures actually suffered from mental illness and found solace in the work, which, by and large, was interested in the intelligentsia. Even more of those who could not adequately ensure their existence, however, now we live in a different world. In a world in which people no longer need to be educated for a decent existence. In a world where an artist not only fulfills orders for portraits and paintings of interior decoration, but becomes an ideological inspiration for the audience, both in the target and mass segments. In a world where interest in art has become fashionable, and most importantly - permitted. Is it difficult to ensure your existence as an artist? Only if you do not take your activities seriously enough, if you do not live it. It is important not to be cunning in relation to yourself in the assertion that you do art only because you cannot help it.
In modern society, the artist takes the position, rather, of the observer, revealing the pain in society, by touching on selected topics. The lack of qualifications as such allows you to openly, clearly express yourself, while it is important, of course, not to conduct propaganda activities: people must make their own choices.
I often hear complaints about contemporary youth regarding indifference to art, which I fundamentally disagree with. At numerous exhibitions dedicated to the art of both antiquity and modernity, I see people mostly of their age. With burning eyes, they show interest, zeal and draw inspiration for their own work, and it doesn’t matter in which area they intend to create: artistic or construction - this is the power of art, it permeates all areas of modern life, makes you distract from the real world, down-to-earth and find yourself tête-à-tête with your thoughts.
And we, as guides, have a great responsibility. We must refute negative thoughts about our activities and convey that the digital age in no way undermines our ranks, not at all, because the hearer is attracted by the beauty and originality of the work, and most importantly - by the author’s embedded semantic load.
