As to the hotel Aphrodita you mentioned you had found on the Web, I wouldn't book it because it is on the edge of the town, so it would be prohibitively difficult for you to get from there to the downtown where the festival will take place. I know a couple of nice hotels situated in the central area of the town that will suit you best. They were renovated last year, so the rooms are very comfortable and quiet, the food in hotel's restaurants is tasty and inexpensive, the staff is very friendly and approachable. Just take down their names - The Paradise Hotel and The Venice View.
As for your desire to join the local gym, I am afraid I have to disappoint you a little, - the matter is, they only register a new member at minimum for a six-month term, which of course is not appropriate thing for you. But be sure, we'll definitely find another way out of the situation.
One thing you will definitely not have problem with, is finding a job. I remember at least three places where you can be employed, two of them are cafes and another is a restaurant. The names of the cafes are "At Bill's House" and "Music Venue", the restaurant is called "The pirate's jewelery". I viseted all of them and I am sure you will enjoy working there.
