During British colonial rule, India purchased cinema equipment in Europe. During World War II, propaganda films were produced, funded by the British military, some of which showed the battles of Indian troops against axis countries, in particular the Japanese Empire, which managed to infiltrate India. This allowed Bengali filmmakers who shot in the parallel movie genre, such as Satyajit Rai, to gain worldwide fame and success among European, American and Asian audiences. The work of Paradise subsequently had a great influence on many directors
