Summit Sierra students are the "managers" of their studies. Children spend half an hour reading and half an hour solving maths problems every day. They also take online courses, talk to teachers about their careers and future. All this helps children to develop a sense of independence, responsibility and self-confidence.

The first Big Picture Learning school was opened in 1995. In this school, study and work are closely connected. Each student must do an internship where he or she closely interacts with a mentor who helps to learn how to work in a real-world setting.
The learning process is built on a special model: schoolchildren are united in groups of 15 people, which are called advisories. Each group has its own advisor. An advisor is a teacher with whom students can consult about their learning process. An advisor can also help with the choice of their future career.

 

P-Tech High School (New York, USA). The school that replaces a college.

P-Tech High School in Brooklyn was opened in September 2011. Since then it has been changing the high school system. Instead of a four-year programme, students study for six years here. Children study in the areas of STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) for all six years. Students of the fifth and sixth grades have classes with a teacher from New York City College of Technology. And at the end of the programme, at the age of 16, teenagers get their first diploma and a college graduate status.
