In-depth research has studied the possible effects on attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours of messages presented in print or electronic media. Print media is readily available to all children in their homes, schools, libraries, and throughout the community, however adults generally have control over their selection and distribution and can monitor their content. Electronic media might cause greater issues because it is less open to parental check-up, particularly the Internet access through cell phones and other hand-held devices such as IPhones or IPads. In the case of cable TV, DVD, and the Internet, parents may have no knowledge of the content and very little control over the exposure.​
