like может принимать как to do, так и doing. Разница не существенная, но она есть.

I like getting up early = Мне это доставляет удовольствие.

I like to get up early = Удовольствия не доставляет, но я считаю это правильным и полезным для себя.

Try, forget могут брать как to do, так и doing с четкой разницей в значении.

I forgot to water the plants, and they died.

I forgot watering the plants and watered them again.
