2. The action started in May 2007 at the initiative of the Ukrainian politician Mykola Tomenko.  Regional organizing committees were put up for competition objects. About a thousand objects were selected. Out of this thousand, an expert council consisting of people (culturologists, historians, specialists in the tourism business) chose a list, first from 100, and then from 21 objects for Internet voting.  The final results of the competition were announced on August 21, 2007.
