Глагол to have обычно переводится как "иметь, обладать", но не всегда. Есть много разных случаев употребления глагола to have, например:

  •    в значении "иметь, обладать";
  •    в устойчивых выражениях, где он переводится другим глаголом (to have a try = попытаться, to have a rest = отдыхать);
  •    в качестве модального глагола have to в значении "вынужден";
  •    в качестве вспомогательного глагола Perfect Tense и др.

Если это устойчивые выражения, то конструкции с глаголом to have могут использоваться и во временах группы Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous: I've been having meetings all day...

Также обратите внимание на форму глагола have в настоящем времени - have got, которая употребляется британцами в неофициальной разговорной речи, обычно в вопросительных предложениях (см. пункт 9)

Глагол to have может выполнять функцию модального глагола вместо модального глагола must - "должен, обязан" и используется в вопросах вместе со вспомогательным глаголом do (does) - см. пункты 3 и 4.
