For some people running a traditional marathon isn’t thrilling enough, so they opt for ultra-marathons which are longer and take place in tough, often inhospitable conditions. These are really challenging races for extreme afletes. And that’s what Dion Leonard does. He travels all over the world to compete in extreme distance races often rising money for charity. But he had never expected to meet a friend for life during his latest 250-kilometre ultra-marathon race through the Gobi Dessert. The race is a difficult one even by ultra-marathon standards, including six different endurance stages over seven days.

After getting started in the early stages of the race, the runners noticed they had a companion who didn’t officialy enter the race – a little stray dog that seemed as excited to compete as they were. They thought the dog would get tired and fall back quickly, but it kept right on going. Of course, the runners were delihted to have some unexpected company.
