Fact 2. Digging in the local soil, archaeologists have come to very interesting conclusions. Firstly, people lived in these parts as early as the Bronze Age, about 4000 years ago. And secondly, once there was a settlement that belonged to the Golden Horde. Saratov itself arose in 1590, when a fortress was erected here to guard the borders by the tsar's decree.
Fact 3. For many years Saratov was considered the center of flour milling. This city became the first in Russia, in which there were mills, innovative at that time, using steam engines. He held the unofficial title of "flour capital" for decades.

As the study of foreign historical documents has shown, in Europe, these regions have also been known since ancient times, despite the fact that settlements here arose and disappeared long before the appearance of Saratov. Even Marco Polo, the famous traveler and merchant, mentioned them in his notes.

In order to somehow populate Saratov and its environs, Empress Catherine II invited colonists from other countries, offering them land for free use. Fact 6. During the uprising of Stepan Razin, Saratov was taken by the army of the rebellious chieftain, and then plundered. A hundred years later, Emelyan Pugachev, who raised a peasant revolt, also took Saratov by storm, but did not hold it for long, only 4 days, after which the city was recaptured by the tsarist troops.

Fact 8. Saratov gave Russia a lot of great people. It was here that N.N.Semenov, the only Russian scientist who received the Nobel Prize in chemistry, the famous Soviet actors Yevgeny Mironov and Oleg Tabakov, was born, and Yuri Gagarin, the world's first cosmonaut, studied here.
Fact 9. The satellite city of Saratov is Engels, which is home to over 225,000 people. It is located opposite Saratov itself, on the opposite bank of the Volga, and at one time there was even a project for the administrative unification of these cities together. Fact 10. After the Patriotic War of 1812, many French prisoners were exiled to Saratov, who made amends for everything they had done in various kinds of work.
