It was 20 years ago and I lived in Paris.
I earned very little and could keep hardly body and soul together.
One of my readers, a lady wrote to me about one of my books she had read.
She asked me if I would give her a little luncheon.
I answered that I would meet her at the restaurant on Thursday 11.30.
The next day when she came I was waiting for her for an hour.
She was a woman of forty and not very attractive.
When the waiter brought the menu, she said: "I never eat many things.
I eat only one thing, a little fish, perhaps."
third sentence: Lady had read book →←earlier→← than she wrote to me. "She had read book" - action that happened before
Fifth sentence “would meet” - Rule that calls: "Future in the past"
Why we use future in the past fifth sentence?
She asked me if I would give her a little luncheon – item 27 in TASK https://znanija.com/task/40123287
Because in the second part of fifth sentence we are talking about action in future: I will meet her next day etc. But whole plot of the story supposes events had happened long time ago that's why we used "Future in the past"
Thank you
"will meet" is transforming to "would meet"
