Thanksgiving is an international holiday that's mainly celebrated in the United States and Canada. Some other countries and municipalities have been known to celebrate it too, but I want to focus on the American holiday.
Thanksgiving became a tradition there in 1863, although the holiday's history goes further back than that. The earliest celebration happened in 1619 in what is now Virginia, and the most famous one dates back to 1621. It took place in modern-day Massachusetts.
Most Americans consider Thanksgiving to be one of the most important occasions. Every year they get together with their families or friends to have a nice dinner on the fourth Thursday of November. Some also attend cheerful parades that take place in many cities.
