The mountains in Great Britain are not very high. There are many rivers in Great Britain, but they are
not very long. The Themes is the deepest, the longest and the most important river in England.
The United Kingdom is a highly developed industrial country. It produces and exports machinery,
electronics, textile. One of the main industries of the country is shipbuilding.
London is the capital of the UK. It’s one of the greatest and nicest towns in the world. There are a lot of
sites and places of interest here. Many parks and theatres, museums and halls, which are always ready to
surprise tourists and English with its beauty. There are about 40 theatres, several concert halls, many
museums including the British Museum, and the best art galleries.
We can always see many people in the parks like Hide Park, Kensington Gardens, St. James Park.
Buckingham Palace is the Queen's Residence. Westminster Palace is the seat of Parliament. The best-known
streets here are Whitehall with important Government offices, Downing Street, the London residence of Prime
Minister and the place where cabinet meets, Fleet Street where most newspapers have their offices, and some
others.
London is situated upon both banks of the River Thames. In Westminster Abbey the British monarchs
are crowned, here they find their eternal rest. Besides Westminster Abbey is well known for the “poet’s
Conner”.
