The world's
forests are in
danger and we
must look after
them. Every year,
more than 80,000 km² of
forests are lost because of agriculture
and industry. Farmers cut or burn
forests so that they can use the land
for planting crops or raising cattle. The
world population is growing and we need
to produce more food. But when we
destroy forests, we wipe out
plant and animal species. If we carry on
the destruction, we'll end up in a sadder,
greyer world. The future won't be bright.
Our children and grandchildren will blame
us for doing nothing. I'm going to set up
a campaign so people can find out how
they can help. To publicize my campaign,
I'm going to visit the Amazon rainforest
next July, where I'm going to swim a
hundred kilometres in the River Amazon
