Существует две версии происхождения этого названия. Согласно первой, колокол получил имя Биг-Бен (Большой Бен) в честь сэра Бенджамина Холла , куратора строительных работ. Согласно другой — в честь Бенджамина Каунта популярного боксёра в тяжелом весе.
