Many animals in the ocean navigate and communicate through sound. However, human activity has made the ocean 10 times noisier since 1960. This interferes with the normal activities of animals. For example, the blue whale now hears its relatives much worse.

What can be done about it? Environmentalists are trying to keep ships away from the large concentration of marine animals. It's not an easy job, because many people don't give the problem much credence.
