MrsAK: The Fraser River is the longest river in British Columbia, traveling almost 1400 km and sustained by a drainage area covering 220 000 sq. km. Its source is near Mt. Robson on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in central British Columbia. The Fraser flows southwest, draining into the Pacific Ocean just south of Vancouver. It discharges 112 cubic kilometres of water per year, dumping 20 million tons of sediment into the Pacific (a sediment load of 0.179 kg per cubic metre).
MrsAK: The Yukon River is the third longest river in North America, flowing northwest from the Coastal Range mountains of northern British Columbia, through the Yukon Territory and Alaska to the Bering Sea. Its overall length is 3185 km, with 1149 km within Canadian borders. The watershed's total drainage area is 840 000 sq. km (323 800 sq. km in Canada) and it discharges 195 cubic kilometres of water per year.
MrsAK: The St. Lawrence river is among the world's greatest river systems and has the highest annual discharge of any Canadian river at 447 cubic km per year. No other river in the world discharges more water into the Atlantic Ocean and only the Mississippi River has a greater discharge in North America. The river is the chief outlet of the Great Lakes and travels more than 1200 km. It flows from the northeast end of Lake Ontario past Montreal to Quebec City where it forms the huge Gulf of St. Lawrence
MrsAK: The Nelson river travels 644 km northward from Lake Winnipeg to Hudson Bay. Its total drainage area covers over 800 000 sq. km and it discharges 110 cubic km annually. It provides an outlet for the great Saskatchewan river system from Lake Winnipeg, with the two systems together (including the Bow River) traveling 2600 km and draining 1.2 million sq. km of land.
MrsAK: The Saskatchewan River consists of two large branches that flow from the Rocky Mountains all the way to Lake Winnipeg. It is the fourth longest river system in Canada, traveling almost 2000 km (including the Bow River), and its drainage area of 334 100 sq. km includes most of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Both branches begin in the Columbia icefields in the eastern ranges of the Rockies.
MrsAK: The Great Whale River (La Grande Riviere de la Baleine) travels 724 km from its headwaters at Lake Bienville, through Quebec's central lake plateau to the Hudson Bay. Its drainage area encompasses 42 700 sq. km and its average annual discharge is 21.4 cubic kilometres. Giant rapids characterize the wild, pristine nature of the Great Whale. Beluga whales, caribou, wolf and rare fresh water seals are among the region's abundant wildlife.
MrsAK: The Saint John River travels 673 km from its source in Somerset County, Maine to its outlet in the Bay of Fundy. Its average discharge is 35.6 cubic km per year and it drains an area of 35 500 sq. km (about half of which lies in Canada). The principal tributaries of the Saint John are the Aroostook, Madawaska, Nashwaak, Oromocto, St. Francis and Tobique rivers.
MrsAK: The Grand River flows 290 km south from just below Georgian Bay in south-central Ontario to the northeast end of Lake Erie. Its 6965 sq. km watershed drains the historic heartland of Ontario, discharging more than two cubic kilometres of water per year. The Nith, Conestogo, Speed and Eramosa rivers are the main tributaries of the Grand, whose waters eventually flow over the Niagara Falls on their journey down the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence waterway to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Mackenzie River is the longest river in Canada covering a distance of around 1800 km. It begins at Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories and flows north into the Arctic Ocean, discharging 306 cubic kilometres of water per year (including 100 million tons of sediment). It is the main stem of the second largest river system in North America (after the Mississippi-Missouri river system), and the fourth largest of all river systems discharging into the Arctic Ocean (the three largest are in Russia). The entire Mackenzie river system extends 4250 km and drains 1.8 million sq. km. It includes three major lakes (Great Slave, Great Bear and Athabasca) and numerous major rivers (such as the Peace, Athabasca, Liard, Hay, Peel, South Nahanni and Slave rivers). It spans four physiographic regions: Western Cordillera, Interior Plain, Precambrian Shield and Arctic Coastal Plain.
