1. Начать предложение с конструкции, вводящей косвенную речь (She told him... / They asked...). Обычно глагол здесь имеет форму Past Simple.

2. Если прямая речь представляет собой вопрос, то в косвенной нужно изменить порядок слов на прямой (переставить вспомогательный глагол после подлежащего, а если вспомогательный do, does или did, то просто не писать его).

3. В косвенной речи у основного глагола меняем форму "на шаг назад" (правило согласования времен), то есть времена Present заменяем на Past, Past Simple - на Past Perfect и т. д.

4. Заменить по смыслу личные и притяжательные местоимения.

5. Изменить указательные местоимения (вместо this пишем that, these меняем на those), а также обстоятельства времени (today заменить на that day, yesterday - the day before и т. п.)
