Today, the Thames has become a symbol of London, just like Big Ben or Buckingham Palace. With the industrial revolution of the 18th century, the Thames became one of the busiest routes in the world. Factories produced and exported goods of all kinds. England in the past had very few railways, so the Thames was the main route between London and many parts of the country.
People from the London territories took drinking water from the Thames, and on both sides of it, cows and sheep thirsting for water were a common sight in the old days. The famous writer Charles Dickens spent part of his childhood there and later wrote about the Thames in his books. Now it is impossible to imagine London without the Thames.
How many conveniences the Thames has helped past generations. And even now it is the most large-scale waterway. It flows for 215 miles through the English countryside and then through the heart of the great city before it enters the sea. In wartime, London was protected from attacks from the sea because castles and forts were built at the mouth of the river.
The Thames contributes too much for people and burns.
