Being in the city of Antigua, we were lucky to catch the beginning of the Semana Santa holiday. Semana Santa is Holy Week. A week before Easter in Spain and in countries that were once Spanish colonies, a religious holiday is celebrated. Every day on the streets of cities you can meet processions that go from one church to another.

Good Friday is the day when Jesus died and it is supposed to start celebrating at 5 pm at the time when the soul of Jesus left his body.

In large cities there are many such processions, but in small ones everything is done with one procession. Processions are columns of people organized by local religious brotherhoods (ermandad), consisting of local residents who carry a base with figures of saints (such bases are called paso).

On the paso, you can see both one sculpture of a saint, and entire episodes from the bible. The brotherhoods that take part in the procession have clothes of different colors, moreover, in each country it can differ not only in color, but also in shape.
