Task 2. Writing. Read the letter below, which Saule wrote to a
magazine problem page. What advice would you give her?
Please help me. I'm desperate and I need help. I've just started high
school and even though my work's not bad, some senior girls are making
my life a misery. I am only 14 years old and these girls are over 16. They
pick on me every break time, and basically do everything to make me cry.
They take my money off me, and if I haven't got any they all take it in
turns to slap me. I've tried to play truancy so that I don't meet them, but
I can't stay off school forever, as my parents will find out. Please help
me, I've got no-one to turn to.

Відповідь: Dear Saule

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing such a horrible treatment. I've thought about your problem for a while. I remember how once I found myself in this situation, and how hard it was to deal with all this bulling while trying to focus on studying. I hope I will be able to help you to go through this with following advices.

First and foremost, always remember that you are not alone and there are adults, who might be able to help you. Don't hesitate to ask teachers you trust for help. Even if your bullies threaten you, still do tell someone. Schools must have a certain protocol for the cases of bulling.

Also, I think you should also inform your parents about the situation. It might be helpful in any scenario, but especially if the school won't take any action. In that case your parents will become your literal defenders as they would have to go and confront your school counsel about their inaction.

Another thing you should do is never be alone while the solution is in process. Your bullies might try to pressure or scare you from speaking up for yourself. However, they are most likely won't do it in front of dozens of other students. So, stay in groups, ask your friends or classmates to accompany you etc.

What you most definitely should not do is give in to your bullies' threats and stunts. I know how hard and scarry it can be to stand up to someone who is cruel to you, to seek help from others, but if you won't make a change, no one might as well and this cycle of bullying will continue until one day they go too far and you get hurt.

Now, with all this advices, I hope you will manage to solve your problems and everything will change to better. I wish you luck. Let me know how everything turns out.

Best wishes,

N.
