In Russia there is a two-tier system of higher education. The institutions of higher education offer Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree programmes. Besides some fields of study offer Specialist’s Degree programmes.
Bachelor's degree is an academic degree received upon the completion of Bachelor's Degree programme. Students can complete their first degree in 4 years. Students working for their Bachelor's Degree are called undergraduates. The first two years of study are aimed at providing general education. During the last two years students major in one special subject. Students awarded their Bachelor’s Degree are called graduates.
Master’s degree is an academic degree received upon the completion of Master’s Degree programme. Students can complete the Master’s Degree in 2 years. It is research degree. This means that a thesis must be written instead of taking examinations. Students working for their Master’s Degree are called postgraduates.
