INVENTIONS AND DISCOVERIES LISTENING 1 Read this quotation. Say what Simon Newcomb got wrong? Think of at least 3 reasons why flying is practical. "Machines heavier than air will never fly. It is not practical. It will never be important and it is probably impossible."' Simon Newcon (1835-1909)

Simon notably said that machines heavier than air will never fly, but many things are out there heavier than air can fly without a problem, for instance, planes are a lot heavier than air itself, but they still can fly nonetheless.

Flying is practical in many ways:

1. The airspace is always empty, meaning that it is much easier to get from one point to another.

2. Flying is simply faster rather than using ground transport.

3. Flying will provide you a safe and secure trip from point A to point B because there's nothing to collide with.
