Your school is holding a Science Week next month. Your teacher has asked you to invite a scientist from a university abroad to give a talk to students. Write an email to the scientist inviting them to attend the Science Week and give a talk. Give details about where and when the event will take place and say why you chose to ask him/her.

Then answer the questions.

1) Who is going to read your email?

My email is going to be read by a scientist from a university abroad.

2) Why are you writing it?

I am writing it because my teacher asked me to invite a scientist to give a talk for a Science Week at my school next month.

3) What style will you write in?

I will write my email in a formal style.

4) How many main body paragraphs will you include? What will each be about?

I am going to include three body paragraphs. The first one will state the purpose of the email, the second one will tell the scientist why I decided to choose him/her, and the last one will include all necessary details, such as date, time and place.

Write your email (120-180 words).

Dear Dr. Brown,

I am writing to you on behalf of the entire student body of School <номер_школы> in <ваш_город>, <ваша_страна>. Our school is holding a Science Week next month, and we would really appreciate it if you could attend the event and give a 30-minute talk about black holes.

Many of my fellow students, myself included, have read your books and watched your documentary series about outer space. We were captivated by your ability to explain complex material in a simple way, and that is why we would really like to meet you in person and listen to your lecture.

The Science Week will be held from <дата_начала> to <дата_конца>, and we would like to invite you to deliver a lecture on <дата_в_указанных_временных_рамках> at 12 o’clock. If you, however, feel that the time or date are inconvenient for you, we can definitely change them. The event will take place at our school, located at <номер_дома> <улица>, <город>, <страна>.

We are looking forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
