Man Writing a Letter and Woman Reading a Letter are the two famous paintings by Gabriel Metsu who was both (widely) admired and reasonably successful during his lifetime. They (were painted) around 1665, in Amsterdam, and now hang in the National Gallery of Ireland.

These two pictures were meant to be hung together (as) painting, a young man (is writing) a letter and in the other one, we can see a young woman reading a letter. The viewers are supposed (to understand) that he is composing a love letter to her, and that here she is reading it.
