The European beaver (Castor fiber) is a large rodent species that is currently endangered in Belarus. Historically, beavers were widespread throughout the country, but due to intensive exploitation of natural resources, their populations have significantly decreased. Beavers play an important role in the ecosystem, creating nests out of branches that, after the beaver's death, turn into fertile soil, and also cleansing rivers and lakes from pollution. Unfortunately, not only in Belarus, but in other European countries as well, beavers are hunted for their valuable fur. Belarus is making efforts to protect this endangered species, but restoring the beaver population takes a lot of time and effort
