1) Ryan was in bad shape as he hadn't worked out for months (was - прошедшее, а действие 'не занимался спортом' было еще раньше, до того как он был в плохой форме, поэтому past perfect)

2) I couldn't believe that someone had been following me for days (couldn't - также прошедшее, и до него произошло второе действие (которое мы и должны поставить в правильную форму), поэтому будет тоже past perfect)

3) Ulan lived in Nur-Sultan when I first met him (met - прошедшее, но Улан жил в Нур Султане в тоже самое время, а не до встречи, поэтому будет не past perfect как раньше, а просто past simple)

4) Berik watched his sister to make sure she was safe as she was swimming in the sea. (он смотрел за ней в тоже время как она плавала, поэтому просто past simple)

5) The wind was blowing, and the leaves were rustling during the storm.

6) The hikers haven't found the next campsite yet. (слово yet указывает нам на perfect, в данном случае будет present perfect, так как это не действие произошедшее перед другим действием в прошлом, а действие в прошлом, которое имеет влияние на настоящее!)

7) The group had been walking for hours before it started snowing. (Здесь у нас именно продолжительное действие в прошлом = процесс (на это указывает слово 'for'), которое завершилось другим действием в прошлом. Следовательно, past perfect continuous)

8) There wasn't any water left because Rachel had drunk it all. (wasn't - в прошлом, а выпила она еще раньше => past perfect)

9) By midnight the heavy rain stopped (указывается четкое время в прошлом => past simple)

10) When Maral and Miras had lost their map, they started walking in the wrong direction (Они потеряли карту до того как пошли неправильно, поэтому скорее всего здесь past perfect. Хотя может быть и past simple, так как присутсвует последовательность действий и 'when')
