It was a dark night, and I was alone in the living room. The only light came from the TV, casting shadows on the walls. Suddenly, the floor trembled. At first, it was just a little shake, like when you jump on the ground. But then it got stronger.
Pictures on the walls began to dance, and the lamps swayed like trees in the wind. I froze. The couch seemed to move beneath me, and the windows rattled loudly. It was an earthquake! I remembered my teacher telling us to stand in a doorway during an earthquake. I ran to the nearest one and held on tight.
The rumbling under my feet was like an angry giant waking up. It seemed to last forever, but it was probably only a few seconds. When it stopped, I was still shaking, but I was okay. That night, I learned that the earth could tell scary stories too.
