My name is Charlotte and I am studying abroad in Spain. I want to share some of my experiences of Spanish culture with you. Here are some benefits of learning foreign languages:
1. You can truly experience new cultures.
You can understand the characteristics of a culture through how people express themselves. There is no better way to learn about a foreign culture than communicating with local people.
2. You have more of an opportunity to get to know new people.
This is the best part of learning a new language! I feel like my world widened in so many ways because I know Spanish. I have many Spanish friends and can communicate with many different people.
3. You communicate better in general.
Now I can express my ideas better because I am learning Spanish. I often struggle to find the exact words to express something in Spanish and need to find another way to explain it using different words or phrases. It taught me to how to communicate better in general.
4. You are open to new ideas.
There are so many intelligent people in the world that have amazing ideas to share but they do not speak English. Knowing a different language opens up the world and gives you access to new ideas.
5. You don’t fear people who are not like you.
Studying abroad, I understood that this world is so small. All humans have things in common. Communicating with people who seem different from you will help you realize that there is no reason to fear those who do not share your culture.
