Christmas begins on January 6 - Holy Evening. Everyone associates this day with such a delicious dish as kutya. It flaunts itself on the table among 11 other dishes. After all, everyone knows that 12 dishes need to be prepared for the Holy Supper. Kutya is decoration. This is the first dish eaten. Then everyone else.
In different regions, it is prepared either liquid or thick. Invariable are nuts (whole or chopped), honey, poppy seeds, raisins. In general, every housewife can fantasize everything she wants. The main condition is that it should be tasty. These 12 dishes are 12 months of the year. Of course, the first spoonful of kuti goes to the master of the house.
As you know, on Holy Evening it is customary to gather as a family, not to visit, preferably not to be late for dinner. The sign says that if you are late for the Holy Supper, then you will be late for a whole year.
What else do we know about Christmas traditions? In general, many folk signs are associated with Christmas. If frost appears on the trees in the first three days of the holiday, there will be a good harvest of bread. There will be good herbs and bread if the snow is deep. If there are many stars at night, it means a good harvest of berries. Spring will be cold if this day is warm.
The symbol of this holiday is a green Christmas tree. The star that usually adorns the top of the tree is a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem, which brightly illuminated the path of the Magi to Jesus Christ. Multicolored balls, small angels, garlands, small shepherds with candles and lanterns remind the candles and lanterns that shone on this holy night for the shepherds of Bethlehem.
