The Hopak in Australia It happened at the audition for “Australia’s Got Talent” in the city of Melbourne in 2011. While people in the audience were discussing the previous performance, a big group of contestants appeared on stage. They were quite unusually dressed for Australia. The women had wreaths with flowers on their heads and men wore loose red and blue trousers. The patterns on their shirts and blouses were also quite untypical for Australia. The judges looked at them in surprise, too. Then one of them said, “Wow, you look like walking florists!” “The name of our group is Roztiazhka, and we are Ukrainian Cossack dancers”, was the answer. “Let’s see what you’ve got,” said Kyle Sandilands, judge, and they started to perform! As Ukrainians danced more energetically than ever before, people from all walks of life joined them! By end of dance people were so excited that they couldn’t stop clapping their hands! “I’d love to see that again! Congratulations! Well done!” said Kyle after show. “That was unbelievable!” said Brian McFadden another judge “You’ve lifted everybody’s energy!” “I thought whole performance was fantastic,” said Dannii Minogue Ukrainians got three “yes” votes from judges. Unfortunately they did not get into semi-final but they certainly showed their best performance ever!
