We needed to find jobs which also provided  a place to stay – A tent we normally used now had small holes and no longer kept out the rain. Fruit picking was a possibility. Right near the sea in Tauranga, there were vacancies for picking kiwis. Apparently, a pay was OK, and you could sleep in dormitories for free. We had just enough money to get there.
