annaengh: king edward built the westminister palace in 1050, and used it as his first residence, — then as a meeting place for Parliament
annaengh: In 1834, after a great fire had completely destroyed the Palace, somebody built a new one, now we know it as The House of Parliament.
annaengh: The House of Commons occupies one half of the building, the House of Lords occupies the other half.
annaengh: The people do not elect the Members of the House of Lords. Some of them get the title from birth, others appoints the Queen (the Governent reccomends them first to the Queen).
