Santa claus is coming to town...
Santa Claus isn't the only person (1.) who enters buildings through the chimney. It wasn't Santa but a would-be burglar who became trapped in a hotel chimney in the town of Alice Springs in Austrulia. The thief who (2.) had been trying to break into the hotel bar had become stuck on the smoke shelf. He had been trapped in the chimney (3.) for more than ten hours and (4) unable to move at all when the staff arrived in the morning and heard him moaning and calling for help. It had been a cold night (5.) that made it worse.
"He was really wedged in there (6.) when we found him. He was (7.) so wedged that it was a life and death situation," said fire station officer Mark James. Firefighters and ambulance officers had never been confronted by (8.) nothing like that before and they spent one and a half hours (9.) trying to free the man. In the end they (10.) had to remove a section of the chimney using jackhammers.
"He was pretty embarrassed and ashamed, so he didn't (11.) say much when we got him out, said Mr. James. But he became a celebrity overnight. (12.) All the local papers and most of the national papers printed the story about the troubles of Santa Claus.
