The first mass famine, which began immediately after the end of the civil war and the suppression of the Ukrainian revolution, covered a large part of Ukraine: Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Ekaterinoslav, Mykolaiv, Odessa provinces. Its reasons were partly objective - the drought of 1921, the economic consequences of the First World and Civil Wars. But the main factors were: the collapse of agricultural practices of the then regime, reduction of sown areas in former fertile areas due to the policy of military communism, directive methods of the Communist Party leadership, which distributed available resources to industrial centers, especially those outside Ukraine.
