Ivan Marchuk is a People's Artist of Ukraine, a laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, an honorary citizen of the cities of Kyiv and Ternopil, a member of the Golden Guild of the Roman Academy of Contemporary Art. In 2007, he was included in the rating of "100 most outstanding geniuses of our time", which was compiled by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.The artist was born on May 12, 1936 in the village of Moskalivka, Ternopil region of Ukraine, in the family of a well-known weaver throughout the region. He studied at the Lviv School of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Ivan Trush at the decorative painting department and at the ceramics department of the State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. In the mid-1960s, Ivan Marchuk came to Kyiv and it was here that he found his own path in the artistic space, which allowed the artist to assert "I am!". At that time, there was furious opposition to the system, which mercilessly suppressed everything that did not fit into the dogmas of socialist realism. 12 years of emigration (Australia, Canada, USA). Since September 2001, after returning from exile, the master lives and works in Kyiv.
