Ван Гог "Звёздное небо"
A picture that has recently caught my eye is Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry night”. In my opinion, it’s a real masterpiece. It is believed to be one of his best oil paintings. It was painted in June, 1889, in southern France. Strangely enough, it was depicted while the artist was undergoing sanatorium treatment. He wanted to capture the night view outside his room window, but painted this piece from his memory. Today the picture is the part of permanent collection of New York Museum of Modern Art. I should say that this picture is pleasant to look. It shows a dark blue sky full of shining stars. The bright crescent moon is also there. In the foreground you can see a construction that reminds a dark castle or a flame and many smaller houses behind it. You can also notice some whirling clouds in the background. There were many interpretations of this picture. One of them suggested that he was painting hope; others said it was full of alienation. It seems that with sharp brushstrokes the painter wanted to show the raging passions and agony of his soul, while the sleepy village was unaware of his state.
