Present Simple используем, если действие происходит в настоящем времени, но не в момент разговора, то есть не прямо сейчас. На это могут указывать индикаторы every day (каждый день), sometimes (иногда), often (часто) и т. д.

Present Continuous используем, если действие происходит в настоящем времени и в момент разговора, то есть прямо сейчас. На это могут указывать индикаторы now (сейчас), at the moment (в данный момент) и т. д. Еще Present Continuous может использоваться для действия, которое обычно происходило одним образом, но сейчас происходит по-другому. Например:

• She sometimes fries the eggs but today she is boiling them. (Иногда она жарит яйца, но сегодня она варит их.)
