United States of America is the fourth largest country in the world. Only Russia, Canada and China have a bigger area than in the United States. There are fifty States in the country. Forty-eight are in the same part of North America. Two other Alaska in the North and Hawaii are located on eight Islands in the Pacific ocean.
U.S. extends from the Pacific ocean to the Atlantic ocean bordering the West and the East. A long chain of mountains stretching down the coast of the Pacific ocean. In this part of the country is Death Valley is the lowest place in North and South America. Here, also, is the Grand Canyon, which was created by the Colorado river millions of years ago. In some places it is about 6 km in depth. Further East are the high peaks of the Rocky mountains, which stretch from Canada to Mexico. Behind them are drawn to the Great plains, where flows the mighty Mississippi river. Another chain of mountains, the Appalachian mountains, extending along the Eastern United States. The U.S. borders with Canada to the North, where there are five Great lakes, and Mexico to the South.
